How to upload a picture into a post

7 01 2008

Imagine reading a full magazine or newspaper that only contained text - how boring would that be? Well the same can be said for your mytenerifeblog posts where the use of images not only make your posts more interesting but can also make getting your point across easier.

I have used images in all these ‘tutorial’ style posts because it makes following the instructions easier.

So how do you upload an image to your blog?

The easiest way is to use the upload box below your WYSIWYG text editor.

How to upload a picture in Wordpress

Write your blog post upto the point where you wish to add the image.

If the image is stored on your PC, use the browse button in the upload section to browse your computers hard drive and find where you have stored the image. Once you have found it, select the upload button and the image will be placed into the Browse section of the editor.

Here you have the facility to include the image into your post either as a Thumbnail (as shown above), Full Size or just a Title link then select Send to Editor.

Adding a post to your Tenerife Blog

Here are some (very) simple directions about how to add a blog post to your mytenerifeblog.com site:

After logging into your admin area for your mytenerifeblog.com site, you will be presented with a screen that looks like the one below. To add a blog post you must first of all write it, you do this by clicking on the Write button as indicated in the image below.

Step 1 in adding a blog post

From here you will be presented with the simple WYSIWYG text editor shown below.

Simple WYSIWYG wordpress text editor

The main areas you need inorder to create your first ever blog post are labelled A, B, C & D in the image.

A: This is where you place the title of your blog post.

B: This is where you add the text that you wish to post within your blog.

C:  You add your blog to a catagory here, Wordpress by default has the catagory Uncatagorized and  unless you specify another catagory, this is where your post will be added. You can add new catagories to your blog site by typing into the text box and then clicking on the add button. Remember to make sure the correct catagory is selected for your post. You can also add your post to more than one catagory if they are relevant.

D:  Here we have 3 options, they are Save & Continue Editing, Save and Publish.

Save and continue Editing allows you to save a draft copy of the post you are making and continue editing, this is useful should you be creating a post that is particularly long. When you click save and continue editing it basically backs up what you have just written.

Save is useful for when you have completed a blog post but are not ready to publish it on your blog (we will look at this in a later post because this is particularly used in conjuction with your post timestamp and I will explain this in more detail then.)

Publish is the button you click when you are ready to publish you post on your blog site.

There you go, you are now ready to publish your first ever blog post.
